Health Personnel training on Blood Culture at Centre Pasteur of Cameroon
On July 10th, 2024, the laboratory manager of the IBHI unit and Merck-funded PhD fellow, Mr. Leonel KAMGUIA, attended a training session on blood culture at the conference room of the Centre Pasteur of Cameroon (CPC) along with 80 healthcare personnel from various health facilities in Yaoundé. This session was organized by the bacteriology-parasitology-mycology laboratory in partnership with bioMérieux.
Two specialists led the training, addressing blood culture issues from both clinical and laboratory perspectives. Dr. Hermine ABESSOLO, an infectious disease physician at the Central Hospital of Yaoundé, presented on the diagnosis of sepsis. Dr. Rosanne Ngome, a medical biologist at the CPC, focused on best practices in blood culture. The participants’ keen interest in the topic led to numerous interactions with the facilitators.
The session concluded with a practical phase conducted by the staff of the CPC Messa Sampling Center. This phase demonstrated the order of collection of different tubes and the method of sample collection, transitioning from one to two broths for automated blood culture.
This training session not only enhanced the participants’ knowledge and skills in blood culture but also reinforced the importance of accurate diagnostic practices in improving patient outcomes.
