IBHI-lab Participation to the 3rd International Conference, Yaoundé, 25-28 September 2023.
For the third edition of the Cameroonian Academy of Young Scientists Conference (CONFCAYS2023), Dr. Kameni, a senior postdoc in the IBHI Lab, had the opportunity to discuss the “Potential of Multi-omics Approaches to Decipher Host-Pathogen Immune Response to Infectious Diseases: Challenges in African Ecosystem” with other scientists. The conference theme, “Interdisciplinarity, Digitalization, and Technological Advancement for Sustainable Development,” provided an excellent platform to discuss cutting-edge scientific approaches that have raised several questions centering around the implementation of multi-omics in Cameroon, particularly at IBHI Lab, and reaffirming the belief in the power of collaborative and interdisciplinary research to address complex challenges in healthcare.
One of the key points of interest was the possibility of integrating traditional medicine practices, such as traditional therapy and phytotherapy, with multi-omics approaches for a holistic understanding of disease mechanisms. This highlights the importance of bridging the gap between traditional knowledge and modern science to advance healthcare in our region.
Another passionate aspect of the discussion involved the position of biomarker discovery using multi-omics compared to traditional diagnostic biomarkers. Multi-omics not only offers a more comprehensive understanding of diseases but also has the potential to identify novel biomarkers that could significantly enhance early detection and treatment strategies.
